Heritage advocates and practitioners have worked hard to express the benefit of heritage places in compelling and measurable ways, often linked to the economy, to the environment or to quality of life, but the data to support claims of the benefits and impact of heritage is uneven. This report focusses on economic indicators, and responds to questions raised by statisticians in the document Feasibility Study – Heritage Conservation and the Culture Satellite Account which set out to test, as a proof of concept, estimates of the value of heritage conservation-related expenditures in Canada.
With funding from the McLean Foundation, Canadian Heritage, and generous donors, the Trust carried out research in 2020-2021 to better understand the range of partnerships at historic sites, and to learn how partners are working together to resolve common challenges and embed them in their stewardship practices.
After speaking with the owners, operators, and community groups working together to protect Canada’s historic sites, we’ve created a Shared Stewardship Toolkit to help you navigate partnerships that best support long-term stewardship.
Historic places across the country are being brought to life by partnerships of all kinds. Here is your toolkit to address the challenges and opportunities involved in growing and sustaining a dynamic site between multiple partners.
While the 2020-21 COVID 19 pandemic has meant closed doors for many of Canada’s heritage sites, large and small, these physical closures have also opened up opportunities for sites to rethink and amplify their online presence. This introductory Guide will give you the basics on media, tools, and platforms you can use to launch your heritage place’s digital presence, and provide entry level insights on photography and photogrammetry. There are many options and ways to stay relevant through digital access and the key thing is to tell your story the best way you can.
This Toolkit presents an overview of the heritage landscape, including the various stakeholders and forces at play. You will find strategies and tips on how to navigate policies, find your advocates and amplify your voice to champion an historic place at risk in your community.
